Welcome to the start of an exciting, ambitious and unique collaboration, the first across two local authority areas, which will transform the economic landscape of the twin cities of Gateshead and Newcastle over the next 15 years.

The NewcastleGateshead City Development Company is a private sector-led partnership, which will radically improve competitiveness in the urban core, deliver higher levels of economic growth, encourage investment, create jobs and make a major impact on the national and international stage.

The CDC has been initiated by three public sector partners - the two local authorities and regional development agency One NorthEast - but will be an operationally independent business-led body that uses private sector expertise to deliver city centre regeneration.

Backed by multi-agency consensus, the CDC will transform economic performance, ensure NewcastleGateshead plays its full part in the renewal of the City region and will accelerate growth in development.

We feel Gateshead and Newcastle need to be regarded as a single economic area because of proximity, direct and indirect economic interaction, image and public perception. Together, we can compete more effectively in the global market place with other major European cities.

Following the renaissance on the neighbouring Quaysides in recent years, we are now ready to step up a gear and transform the area on both sides of the bridges, supporting existing businesses and making new ones welcome by galvanising our combined economic strength.

We intend to show we mean business by recruiting a top flight Chair, Chief Executive and Board members for the CDC, who can attract new business, new investment and new jobs to this vibrant area.
